Change, Comfort ZoneYOU CAN ACHIEVE CHANGE…

WITHOUT STEPPING OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE DON’T BELIEVE ME? HERE’S HOW:

We all know that change can be scary because it takes us into the new and unknown. FEAR is a natural response to anything that’s new and unknown. It’s the “fight or flight” reaction dating back to caveman days.

It’s a natural reflex of our body and mind, in order to keep us safe from harm. Even if the change would be good for us, the emotional, physical and mental reflexes are the same.

One acronym for FEAR is “False Events Appearing Real”. The Events are False and cannot be Real, because they haven’t even happened yet. But we buy into the lie that our imaginations created and that our feelings tell us to be wary of.

It’s our fear, our belief in the lie that keeps us stuck where we are – in our safe place, where we’re comfortable – in our comfort zones.

And, we’ve also been told that any goal that initiates growth must be risky. If there’s no risk, there’s no movement toward change (we stay in our safe place).

So, if we want change, what should we believe?

Change“Risk” and “Change” are scary words and our emotions of fear and worry kick in as natural reactions. Words first, then emotion, then fear.

I used to believe that we need to step outside of our comfort zones in order to achieve change.

“Step outside of your comfort zone” – talk about a scary concept! Leave your safe place behind and step blindly into the unknown. That evokes a visual for me, of being alone and scared, standing at the edge of a dark abyss below, taking a leap of faith that things will work out well in the end. That vision just doesn’t cut it for me!

I don’t know about you, but that “alone and scared” part is really terrifying! No wonder change is so hard for many people. No wonder fear makes people stay stuck. What a horrible lie to choose to believe.

So, I have switched my mindset about stepping outside my comfort zone – I just don’t do it!

The Challenge of Change

When I am presented with the challenge of change, I strip away the negative emotions and fear about the change and I gather up my comfort zone and take it with me!

I wrap myself up in all of my:

  • Past successes and achievements
  • Support systems
  • My life experiences and education
  • And all of the mistakes and learning and growth that I have experienced

These make me the strong, successful, powerful woman that I am today. And I CONFIDENTLY take one small step into the unknown. One small step towards my next goal.

Once I take that small step, I absorb the new learning from that experience and it isn’t the unknown for very long. It then becomes part of my comfort zone.

changeOver the years, my comfort zone has grown exponentially. It is so much bigger than it was 30 years ago, or 20, or especially over the past 2 years.

The list of ways to obtain information: Reading books, Kindle, audio books, tapes, television, audio, mp3, video, mp4, Google, YouTube, FaceBook, the Internet, teleclasses, webinars, seminars, etc., etc. The more I learn, the faster my personal and professional growth progresses.

I am comfortable with so much more today than I ever have been before. I know so much more and I can learn about anything I want, quickly and easily and the supports that I need to help are right at my fingertips.

My comfort zone is expanding and the unknown is shrinking.

Fear is created because something unknown could be a potential threat. Now that I have learned and understand that FEAR is a lie, I no longer live in fear of the unknown. I no longer need to step outside of my comfort zone.

I simply expand it and continue to do so by taking one small step at a time into the unknown, being open to outcome, excited and inspired, and looking forward to creating the life I want for myself, my family and my business.
